Beauty: From A Guy’s Prospective

Many times I have looked at my reflection in the huge mirror, mounted on the wall behind my bathroom counter. The letters “U-G- L-Y” begin to unmask themselves on my splotchy skin, frizzy bed head, and dark circles under my eyes. The enemy whispers lies into my ear: “You will never be good enough…” or “look at yourself compared to her…”. Satan tells me that I won’t ever be beautiful for him. For that boy who gives me butterflies. He seems so perfect, and I’m just me… right? I’m just a normal girl with nothing going for her, right? Wrong. I am a daughter of God. And so are you. As girls, we tend to put this expectation on ourselves for guys. A worldly expectation that states: we must be a supermodel to get the guy. But this isn’t true. I was given the opportunity to interview four guys and what they find beautiful in a girl. After interviewing them, I found they had some views in common. Here is what they had to say:

“A girl who knows the Bible and God’s Word is a girl who’s beautiful. Their choices and decisions should reflect God’s truth. A girl who will stand up for truth and what is right and what God says is true.” -Rylan

“Spiritual beauty is the most important part of beauty because it’s eternal. I think a girl is exceptionally beautiful if I can talk to her about spiritual things. Like can we talk about God together? Can we go to church together? If she is cool with that, I think that makes her so beautiful.” -Jonathan

“I find a girl who is able to worship the Lord very attractive. In song, in day to day life, in deeds, etc. And do it joyfully and not care what people think. Like when they are actually worshiping the Lord and aren’t afraid of what other people think, that’s so cool. Like worship is a time between us and the Lord and a girl who is totally surrendered to Him while worshiping is really beautiful.” -Rylan

“I would define a beautiful girl as someone who is comfortable in their own skin; girls who look in the mirror and think ‘Yeah! That’s me!’ Nothing makes a girl more beautiful than their confidence. The media has a very damaging effect on this confidence by the image women think they need to display themselves in. This makes them believe they are not ‘good enough’ or have to try harder to reach perfection.”-Luke

“A girl who isn’t super revealing and showy with what they wear, but someone who is confident in who she is but most importantly, her identity in Christ. I think it’s really beautiful when a girl is found in God. She isn’t looking for attention or feels as though she needs to prove herself to A God Girl Confident others because she knows she is found in the Lord. A girl who isn’t worried about being pursued by a guy because she knows she is pursued by God. She knows how precious she is in the Lord’s-eyes and is content without a guy, because she has the Lord.” -Rylan

“Something that turns me off personally is when a girl has a BAD ATTITUDE! (‘Megan, make sure you put that in caps!’) Even if they are drop dead gorgeous, if they have a bad attitude, it’s just horrible. The Bible says in Proverbs 11:22 that a beautiful women with a bad attitude is like a golden ring in a pig’s snout. So, that’s a big turn off for me.” -Jonathan

“Another thing is one who is specifically joyful. Being joyful is one of the fruits of the spirit! And it shouldn’t be affected by circumstances. I think a girl who is able to have joy in the midst of the storms and trouble is a beautiful girl.”-Rylan

“I think a really big thing is how a girl acts around other guys. If they are super touchy, even if they are just friends with a guy, that just kind of bothers me. Like girls naturally want to be loved and hugged and that kind of stuff, but ones who seek for that in general makes me look away.” -Rylan

“Something I find very important is a girl who is loyal. It’s very rare, but super important to a guy.” -Jonathan

“Disloyalty and being out there to everyone is something I find very unattractive. If a girl is super flirtatious towards another person, I’m not going to be as attracted to them. It makes them seem like they either want to play people or aren’t loyal.” -Connor

“Um, I know the cliché answer is looks, but to me, it’s not so much how much of like a‘supermodel’ they are, it’s more how they are as a person. Someone can be attractive and not beautiful. It’s a spot in between being attractive and actually caring about people.” -Connor

“Selfish girls, no matter how they look, are a no go!” -Luke

“Guys spend their entire lives trying to understand girls and be there for them, so when a girl takes the time to try to understand a guy, that makes a great couple and a great girl. And don’t get me wrong, girls are so beautiful and so precious, and need to be sought after, but relationships need to be two sided. Relationships are a two way road, if both sides of the street:

Fun to Be Around

and are moving in the same direction, everything’s great. But if everyone is moving in different. directions at different speeds or not moving at all, there will be a traffic jam.” -Jonathan

“I personally find girls who don’t wear a lot of makeup way more attractive than girls who wear a bunch of makeup.”-Rylan

“Something I find really beautiful in a girl is when she is able to be real person rather than be superficial.”-Connor

“Someone you can be real with. Like if I have a problem I hope to be able to talk it over with her, if I can’t I find that very unattractive.”-Jonathan

“This is kind of off topic, but I think it’s super important. I think, and this is just me, but I think that guys and girls shouldn’t even think about a relationship until like their parents think they are strong enough and good for each other. And like if their parents are okay with it. The parents should have most of the say as to what happens because many times I see middle schooler’s and high schooler’s and they define what happens and goes on in the relationship and it just ruins both of them. A girl who is okay with having mentors and family members who speak into what’s going on and is willing to listen to wise council, that’s just awesome.” -Rylan

As you can see, guys care a lot about girls, sometimes even just as much as girls care about guys. Relationships are hard, but there are still guys out there who actually care and notice true beauty in girls. And I only interviewed four!! One last thought though. One of the boys I interviewed had a closing thought that I thought was super great and worth including in the article.

It’s okay if you’re not in a relationship and it’s almost better that you are not in a relationship right now. You don’t want to settle for something less than you deserve. Don’t just settle for a guy who just goes to church. The idea of being equally yoked doesn’t just mean he’s a Christian. And if you are going to be in a relationship, you need people around you who are not only pouring into you, but are also pouring into your relationship. You need honest people who are honest and will point out if you aren’t equally yoked.

Ryaln has a great point. Don’t just settle for any guy, or if there are any guys reading this, any girl. You are so precious and dear to the Lord, and He has the perfect person picked out for you! Don’t just settle for someone who just goes to church. That is not being equally yoked, and you deserve the absolute best. Keep holding out for a hero!

With love,

Meg ❤

Meet Meg!

Hey there! I’m Megan. I am a 17-year-old girl who is constantly discovering the world around me. I love writing about the strange, yet wonderful experiences of my life, with my cat sitting right beside me. I’m like every other teenage girl in the way that I dream about my wedding day, probably spend a little too much time on Instagram, and I love shopping, especially for cardigans. I am a bit crazy and cheesy and corny and maybe a little bit weird, but hey that’s cool! Most importantly, though, I am a God Lover. (If you read the Christy Miller books, you will understand my reference! Haha! See what I did there?? ;)). Jesus is my number one and He’s my hero! I can’t imagine walking this earth without Him. He willingly gave His life for me, so I willingly give my life to serve and worship Him. ❤

So glad Megan has decided to join our writing team! She is so great and God is using her in so many ways!

What does “True Love” Really Look Like? Because Disney Cant tell us.

true love.jpgWe all dream of that one guy we will spend the rest of our lives with. Someone that will bring you chamomile tea when you have a cold, someone that will hug you when you’re hurting, and someone that will ALWAYS be there. This a young girls dream and always will be, because princesses are supposed to have princes right? Even though Disney may tell you love at first sight is real and you are supposed to marry the person you instantly fall in love with (even if it’s only been a day! HAHA remember Enchanted?) That is not always the case. Actually, I have talked to a lot of happily married couples who have said that they had NO IDEA they were going to marry the person they did.

The point I am trying to make is, love doesn’t always end in “Happily ever after.” You might meet a lot of princes, but that doesn’t mean they will be YOUR prince. Think about Jasmin, she had gone through many many suiters, but it wasn’t until she met Aladdin on a street corner that she had met her match. The world puts the expectation of “True Love” being love at first sight, and I’m sorry but that is just not the case. True love is taking the time to get to know someone, sticking with them even when in that moment you may not feel like it, being there no matter what. These are all signs of real love. The real “one” will do these things for you. So I want you to ask yourself something, do you think the person you are interested in show’s signs of true love? Are you prepared for the real answer? Because if you continue reading this article I know you will find it. And it may break you heart. So before I tell you what real “True love” is I want you to know that there is someone waaaaaay up in the sky who showed TRUE love to you many years ago. His name is Jesus and he was crucified on a cross, beaten with a metal whip, spit on, cursed at, and so many other unspeakable things, why? So that YOU could be with him. I don’t know what that tells you but it tells me that I already have true love. I have Jesus and that is enough. So even if you find out “that” person doesn’t have the same feelings, its okay, because you already have a prince in heaven.

  1. Patience

Ok things are getting real guys!;p Someone that shows you patience is someone that shows you love. Because someone that isn’t willing to wait for you…doesn’t love you. Think about it this way, you love ice cream, but its 10 a.m. and your favorite ice cream place doesn’t open until at least noon. You could go to the grocery store and buy a carton of the just okay ice cream, or you could stick around until noon and wait for your favorite ice cream. See what I mean? You waited because you LOVE THAT ice cream. Not the other stuff from the store.

  1. Kindness

Ok you may be saying “duhh..” but honestly I know a lot of girls who wouldn’t go for a guy who is kind. He will be kind to you even when you are not kind to him, he will never raise a hand to you, or do anything to harm you intentionally.

  1. Forgiveness

You have hurt people, whether you realize that or not. And you have probably hurt him to. When you KNOW you’ve done something to cause him pain, does he still treat you with love, respect, kindness, and patience. Does he forgive? When Jesus was hanging on that cross he said father FORGIVE them they no not what they do. Luke 23:34 “Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” And they divided up his clothes by casting lots. Jesus showed you the ultimate love, this guy should show you the love Jesus shows for you to. He is not perfect, but you don’t have to be perfect to at least TRY to show people these qualities.

4. Sacrifice

It’s amazing what people would give up for the things they loved. Does he sacrifice his time for you? Does he go out of his way to show you how he cares? Does he leap out of his comfort zone for you? If he loves you, with TRUE love, he would sacrifice things for you.

These three quality’s any guy should show you. Does he do that? If you are still stumbling then here’s a tip for you. When you are asking yourself these questions I would say look at your father, and you can’t say you don’t have a good one, because you DO. He lives in haven and is caring for you at this very moment. He spilled is blood for you on the cross, (Sacrifice) we were yelling and screaming at him, beating him to almost death. (Forgiveness) We did all these things to a man who stopped to help the blind, healed the sick, and washed our feet (Kindness.) He watches us commit sin every day, and has to wait for us to realize that he is the only thing we need (Patience.) You already have Jesus. So when you are looking for another to be in your life, why get anything less then what you already have? It may not seem like it but there are still some good guys out there, you just have to wait, and be patient. Because its “true love” you want right?

After reading this have you discovered the truth? Is it true love? I hope it is…but in case it’s not I just want you to know that just because this person wasn’t “it” doesn’t mean you are not loved. I love you and I don’t even know you, so if you ever need someone to talk to email me here,
